  • germany trier = Trier is a few miles from France and Luxembourg and is said to be the oldest town in Germany. The "Porta Nigra" (Black Gate) in the town was built by the Romans about two millenia ago.
  • germany trier porta nigra = Black Gate = This vast fortified stone gate has stood as a symbol of the city since the second century. The name comes from the layer of black soot that covered the gate during the industrial revolution, or is medieval and goes back to the black pollution patina on the gray sandstone.
